Only One Artists

This is a list of artists who, of all the things they have both made and that I have consumed, have produced exactly one thing that I like.

It would be easy to read this in a negative or cynical way; that it's a shame that I'm so picky or that people are not as good at making works of art as they ought to be. However, I know that art is hard to make and I'm very thankful that these artists have made something that I like. I love the work that the person made, even if I don't like the other works I've seen from them. 1

It reminds me that my goal, to reach other people and to have a profound connection with them with my art, doesn't need to be successful in every attempt. As long as I can make that connection at least once, in something I make... there's something nice about that. It's inspiring. 1

  • Andrew Bird - Roma Fade
    • The lyrics can be understood in different ways -- a really interesting tension between creepiness and desire in the lyrics has a metaphorical connection to x-rays, which adds so much to read into. The lyrics change rhythm at tense moments, the chorus releases that tension in a satisfying four-to-the-floor, the ethereal vocals bring you to a different plane, and the sharp, clear plucking of the instruments bring you back. 2
  • RYKARD - North Cormorant Obscurity
    • The music paints such a deep, contemplative feeling, and -- far from boring -- uses sounds here and there to keep things fresh and interesting. It feels like I'm traveling underwater, or that I'm looking over a snowy and windswept vista, or through space. There's so many different layers to listen for that compliment each other. 3
