Watching Interior Design for the anonymous Men of REDDIT by Caroline Winkler.
- What makes a good interior space?
- At least three sources of light. This way, there isn't one hard, harsh light from overhead. Use lamps!
- Instead of using one item on its own, use
layering! This gives layers of interest for your
eyes to follow
- It's not just a coffee table; it's on a rug on wall to wall carpet and there's a tray with decorative elements on it.
- There's art on the wall, but there are tall plants in front of it, there's a lamp between the couch and the art, there's a low side table underneath the art.
- Use a variety of height levels, so that there's something for the eye to look at, at different vertical heights.
- Use a variety of materials. Consider what materials are present in the room already when picking a new item. Remember to add wood and plants!
- Use a variety of colors, avoid having too much
color coordination.
- Pick a main, secondary, and accent color.
- All of these rules seem to be generally "do this at least three times"
- Find your "north star". Find a few images with interior design that you like to use as your reference point.
- Make sure that you have a "drop zone" to put down stuff. Designate a place for your stuff to live.
